Will the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus run a sump pump (1/3 hp to 1/2 hp)?

Yes. The DELTA 3 Plus has the output and surge for a 1/3 to 1/2 HP sump pump, but running nonstop its 1024 Wh battery lasts only about 43 minutes to an hour.

Yes: 44 min to 1.0 h

At 800 to 1,200 W running. Formula: 1,024 Wh x 0.85 / load W.

A sump pump is a heavy load for a portable station. The figures we found put a 1/3 to 1/2 HP pump at 800 to 1200 W while it runs, and 1300 to 3200 W for the moment the motor starts.

The DELTA 3 Plus is rated for 1800 W continuous and 3600 W surge, so it covers the running draw and the highest starting figure in our sources. That matters because the pump restarts every time the float rises, and a station that trips on the start is no help in a storm.

Runtime is the catch. Running without a break, the pump empties the battery in under an hour and a half at the low end of the range and less at the high end. Real pumps cycle, so the battery lasts longer in a normal rain. The sump pump storm page works out the runtime for a pump that runs a few minutes an hour up to half the time.

For long storms, plan on recharging, an extra battery, or a backup pump made for the job. Check your pump's label for its amps and enter its watts in the calculator.

Questions

How long will the DELTA 3 Plus run a sump pump?

Running nonstop, about 43 minutes at 1200 W to about an hour at 800 W. A pump that only runs part of each hour lasts much longer.

Can the DELTA 3 Plus handle the pump's starting surge?

Yes. The highest starting figure in our sources is 3200 W, under the 3600 W surge EcoFlow lists.

Runtime calculator

Runtime (hours) = battery Wh x inverter efficiency / load W

Efficiency is the share of battery energy that reaches the outlet. Where the maker does not publish it we use 0.85. Average W is for loads that cycle on and off, like a fridge; leave it blank to use running watts. Starting surge assumes one motor starts at a time. How the estimates work.
